I'm not sure how you can defend this person for hiding their diagnosis. It's not okay to hide your diagnosis from someone and then possibly expose them to it. It doesn't matter if it's a common cold or something more serious, it's never okay. The problem here is failure of disclosure and hiding things, and exposing someone to a virus without giving them the necessary information to decide for themselves.
