Some of my backstory. I'm a veteran. Served in the Marines 2000-2005. In that time I met, married, got deployed, came back, got divorced. I left because of that – not because of the lifestyle.
I think back at how much heartache then… and how much heartache could have been saved if either of us – we were both idiots. I was horrible at relationships and she… well she cheated (I found out after we separated – for various other reasons lol).
If I had the strength of character to take one of the red flags and be “Nope. I'm out” – or, in all honest, if she had as well. I was never abusive or a cheater but mistakes were made. Years of suffering could have been ended.
So when I see you able to see a massive flag like that and be like “Nope. If you don't show the message, you're hiding something and I'm out” and then follow through?
I don't know where you live. Don't know your name. (and I'm not asking so no creeper vibes from me lol) but if you was near and I knew? I'd take you out somewhere to celebrate. Dave and Busters because that's where adults go insteaed of Chuck'e'cheese lol. Not as a date but as a “Good job!”.
I hope you have a friend or family that you can be like “we need to go celebrate!” because the fog of loss at the end of a relationship *SUCKS*… but you've done a good thing and you deserve to go out and have some fun as reward.

When you're in a relationship and want to do something without your partner that is reasonable, you don't ask for permission, you inform her of your plan.
The key is reasonable. Meeting some friends out for a drink is reasonable. Going to a sporting event is reasonable.
Things are already over dude. ive been there and it sucks, but you don't tell your partner you respect that 'everything's fine until the day you want space and an open relationship. You sound like you realise you deserve more, and better treatment.
