You can only claim to have a 'sense of humour' if the jokes were targeted at you and you were able to laugh them off. This just makes you and your friends sound like bullies.
Separate to this, your boyfriend is now resentful and it sounds like he is getting what he sees as revenge. Not sure if he will come back from this. Hopefully he can get some help to realise not all people have bad intentions, and becoming one of the judgemental people he hated doesn't help anyone, especially him.
