The fact that him + his entire family accepted her gay brother, and probably every other lgbtq person they've ever known, without question or comment, would be enough for most people to assume they're not homophobes. My husband and I are from different countries. You have to be open to finding a compromise that works for both of you to make a relationship like this work, even if that compromise looks like holidaying with one of your families.
Having said that, I think the context regarding why she hates your family is so important. I wouldn’t ever go live near where my husband is from for family-based reasons, but my husband is incredibly understanding of those reasons.
