genuinely, we were not there for the argument. we don’t know the details of the exchange. we understand that there had been historic tension between mother and partner, enough tension that there were arguments. op said that her mother has always wanted them to break up.
I believe from this that it is reasonable to assume that within the argument, the partners words do not indicate that he was trying. to manipulate or isolate, rather to point out that the mothers desire for the end of the relationship is irrelevant.
