I don't want to sound pessimistic now, but you are 23 and that is exactly when you start to realise some of these things… Life is filled with very tough and cruel experiences, like it is also sometimes filled with happy experiences. In my late twenties things started to get awfully obvious that life can and will fuck you up from time to time… sudden deaths, illnesses, injuries, money issues from things you couldn't anticipate/control, heartbreak and so on.
The only logical conclusion I took from all of these things that happened in these past years is that you will always have to expect that some shitty things will just happen. So how do you reduce the potential damage/danger? By reducing the possible sources and sorting out all of the factors that you can control yourself.
We choose to stay in toxic relationships, we don't choose to get altzheimers or cancer. You can leave a relationship just like that, you can't just get rid of cancer.
That is what stayed with me. I keep away from all the shit that makes my life unnecessarily more difficult. I try to take care of myself and be a person that does not crumble under just any unforseen complication. I try to be strong for the things to come.

You are 18 do I get it, but at some it becomes normal for your partner to have sex before meeting you. This is not to mention that generallt speaking it's unlikely to be your last relationship in life anyway. Have fun, explore having sex with her etc.
