1. Is it possible for you to relocate to a different city? Maybe a good way forward is starting over in a different environment and being able to make new friends and build a different social circle? Or at the very least, taking yourself out of the situation by going to a totally different place can help give you clarity.

   Moreover, as so many have pointed out, she's an adult, and does not need you to be her knight on a white horse to slay some dragon. Wouldn't it serve you better to focus on rebuilding yourself? What point and purpose does it serve to rehash the past? Let yourself mourn the loss of the relationship if you must. But at the end of the day, come to terms with the reality that it is gone.

   It's difficult, yes. But necessary. Otherwise, you will drive yourself crazy trying to rehash the past, and will eventually end up seeing only the “highlights reel” of your past relationship and your ex which glosses over the painful bits and only features the nice bits. Nostalgia won't help you. Seeing it through rose-colored glasses won't help you.

   If you take things one day at a time, and perhaps put some distance between you and the current situation, and maybe even speaking with a licensed therapist could help you heal, and gain some clarity.

   Also, remember this. Life is not a movie or a TV show. Those have structure, and some semblance of order and logic. Whereas real life, does not. Many times, life can be mundane, and “boring”, and as you get older, “boring” becomes far, FAR more preferable to “drama-filled” and “complicated”.

   Best of luck to you. Don't be too nude on yourself. But also try not to overthink things. Time and distance will give you clarity and perspective.
