You should go over to some IT sys admin threads. Some of the stuff HR asks them to find or that they have to report is unbelievable. People are sometimes that deluded, entitled or just plain stupid.

What do you want from confronting him? It sounds to me like you want either for him to confess, while he’s been lying this whole time or for him to reassure you. But if he reassures you will you believe anything he says? I wouldn’t. So if either way you think he’s lying, what’s the point of staying with him? All confrontation gives him is time to lie to and gaslight you again. I would just pack up and leave.
