Are you sure this isn’t just the grandmas personality? My grandma says and does the most outlandish things she’s a total goof and we all love it. If she did this I’d be like damn that’s so grandma lol.
I do think it’s weird they were given in front of the kids, but outside of that it seems like a cooky old lady trope.
Yeah, like you said, that wasn't exactly cool of you to do. But he is also super guilty here since it sounds like you've given him every opportunity to be honest with you. He should just be honest, and tell you that yes, he likes the idea of those things. But he also understands that you are not into them, so they are nothing but fantasy for him and he understands that. I feel like that's all he had to do to avoid this type of situation.
If I were you, I'd start with admitting my mistake. Shouldn't have entrapped him like that. You just felt like it was the only way to get him to tell you the truth since he felt like he couldn't normally for whatever reason. It sucks, but that sounds like the truth of it.
