1. Talk this out. Does he know you don't want an expensive ring? He might think you're expecting tens of thousands worth of carats and knowing you don't wear jewelry he might just want to make sure you'll wear a ring daily before he spends that kind of cash. Does he know you would rather a tattoo? Does he want to buy you a status symbol of ring? It sounds like y'all want to get married so your both on the same path, It sounds like there's a difference of opinion on what this ring is meant for. Obviously it's a token of love but he may think he needs to buy something expensive, while you just want a plain band. I would compromise, wear the ring for a week, then take it off and tell him no more rings on that finger until it's an engagement ring.
