It's about his wife and his decision to be with her. Her reaction, right or wrong, is at the center of this. If he wants to continue being married then he needs to understand why she thinks it's a big deal, not whether or not it's a big deal.
It appears that she thinks it's a big deal because he didn't tell her. That's kind of the end of the conversation. Speculate all you want about the rest of it, but in a relationship it's all about your partner's perceptions of what's going on. If that isn't something that can be properly handled/managed then they're on the road to splitsville. I don't really care if it's actually a big deal or not; it's a big deal to her.
They both were just fun people to party with, plus we have a lot in common with tv, music, etc. but I now realize that probably isn’t the only quality I should look for in a friend
