2. I think 1 and 2 are bad takes. Only women are given the security of knowing 100% for sure a child is theirs as a default, men dont get this safety. And it shouldnt really be put as a bad thing on the man securing their legal safety as this isnt given to them as a default, not a comment on the woman and not trusting her, but a legal safety for somthing that will have consequences for the rest of the mans life. If the roles were reversed women would be encouraged to take the test to ensure their legal safety. Its a matter of equality, nowadays men dont have the same legal safety as women when it comes to having children, no way even close to the same.

3. I think there’s something bigger going on. On one hand, OP says his wife loves his dad and considers him her own. On the other hand, she’s focused on his flaws, not his attributes. These two are in conflict.

   If we were talking about a first name, I could see that more compromise is needed. But, if this is a middle name that won’t be used, not that big of a deal.

   Maybe the compromise is to let her pick the first name, then use dad’s middle name as the kid’s middle name.
