As someone who camps a lot and lives somewhere everyone else does too, I am assuming he is the experienced camper and OP isn't It would be utterly bizarre to me for someone to worry about my food/gear, etc. or for me to worry about theirs. If you bring something camping, you need it, and if you need it, you bring it. You don't worry about or even consider 'duplicates' bc your gear is your gear and your food is for you. If somebody wants to bring something to share…great, but nobody expects that .
I would think it very, very odd if the invite contained anything but time/place and the fact it is bf's birthday. But only knowing everyone is experienced campers.
