It seems like the dad and brothers are on board with him already. OP’s mother exerts little to no real control over OP’s life beyond the standard issue guilt trips that fundamentalism relies upon to function, and of which the mother is also a victim.
If they never want to get married, they shouldn’t. But if it’s ever been on the table, an engagement might give her mom a little comfort. Peace in the family might be worth it for someone who is pushing 70, and in all other regards a beloved parent. If her mom was younger, it might be different.
Or maybe her friend shouldn't have raped her? Are we actually blaming the victim here?
