Is he actually getting help for the drinking problem? You say he is “trying” to get help for it. But help with a drinking problem is real easy to start: go to a meeting. (there's AA, but I personally think Smart Recovery is better).
I do have my doubts that addressing the drinking problem would 100% fix the cheating problem, but it would be a big help if he took both seriously.
