FMLA is just time off. She can get insurance either through the state (medicaid or other), or through her employer, or buy simply buying it outright. (Can't disallow because of pre-existing conditions anymore).
I'd rather change my own way of thinking then potentially hurt their feelings that could even lead to a bad fight. I really want to stay together/find a way past this because the alt is having my time split with my child in half and a messy divorce.
No confrontation until you have brought your ducks in a row and talked to a lawyer. If she's been in an affair for 5 years, then loving and cherishing and honoring you was the last thing on her mind. She definitely didn't think of her children while having s*x with the other guy. So saving the relationship is out of the question, that ship has sailed a looooooooong time ago. You need to get a lawyer, prepare the divorce, then tell your and her parents, right before you serve her.
No, do NOT stay because of the kids. That is the worst you can do because you're teaching your children what a relationship should look like. Your teaching them to stay with a partner that clearly doesnt love them or the family they've created. That being in pain and anguish is normal in a marriage.
Pull yourself together and stop sticking your head in the sand about the truth. Divorce her.
