Some people are raised to have zero boundaries for their loved ones. Therefore, this type of relationship is all they know. It's not healthy. A respectful partner would never treat you in such a way. It took me over 30 years to understand I could and should have boundaries for the way people treated me. I knew no different than to be the self sacrificing person I was molded into, because that's what love was, or so I was taught. Years of therapy and working on myself changed that. I read every psychology article I could get my hands on, and tore myself down to the foundation so I could rebuild. Now? Not many of my family members like me, but I'm not an unhappy little mouse, scurrying after every crumb of affection. I suggest you take a look at how you were raised. No privacy? No freedom? Is that healthy for development?
Boy, Im not sure I have anything constructive to say being an atheist and all but from my perspective from being married almost 30 years is that there are way more serious issues in life to contend with than whose version of a fairytale is truer. That being said, I stem from an interfaith marrige where my parents were raised catholic and jewish; neither doctrine interfered with their relationship. Seems like its time for you to move on if these issues can not be resolved. Itll only cause more turmoil once children are involved. I sincerely hope for the best outcome. Good luck.
