I think you're way overthinking this. People say a lot of positve stuff at the beginning of every relationship / acquaintanceship, and then it just sometimes dies anyway for various reasons. Just because someone acknowledges that you have your life figure out and know what you want doesn't mean they're going to fall in love with you and be with you for 50 years.

I agree with this. But also, it doesn't sound like you and your gf have the same values or are on the same page. You guys should be a team, making financial decisions together and considering each other. I'm not quick to say break up, but it does sound like you have a very different priorities from your gf and her family, is there really a future here? Do you envision yourself married into this mess?
