He needs to speak to a solicitor and the police about getting a restraining order in place and going no contact with her. He also needs to let his sponsor know he has done this, if he is able it might be worth telling the sponsor about the childhood abuse and how his mother is trying to continue this into adulthood so he is going no contact and trying to make a new life for himself.
It would also be a good idea for him to have some counselling, even over the phone, to just talk through what happened to someone and help him go no contact. As child abuse victims often find this very difficult due to the conditioning they received from the abusive parent.
