Cmon, don’t be so judgemental. This type of thing happens all the time, to good people in good relationships. OP at least has enough sense to try and get these irrational emotions under control and resist temptation
OK. Since we're all speculating here, here's one from left field that might explain why both the friend and fiance are willing to keep their mouths shut.
Fiance has found out that OP's friend has had or is having an affair with OP's mother. He knows that OP would be devastated to learn that her mother had cheated on her father and so has agreed not to tell OP on the proviso that the friend cuts off all contact with the family.
Yes it's as far-fetched as any of the other scenarios but it does at least address why both the fiance and the friend would keep quiet.
OP – ignore my creative writing exercise. Seeing as your friend has told you he wants to cut contact with you, you have little leverage there. So the only thing you can realistically do is to get your fiance to talk, and the only way to do that is to tell him the wedding is indefinitely postponed until he tells you what's going on. The alternative is to write to your friend and tell him you're disappointed he'd end a 27 year friendship without explanation, and hope that he responds. If you do that though, make sure you're transparent with your fiance and tell him that's what you're doing. If you do it without his knowledge it could in turn damage your relationship with your fiance.

Compromise is you trusting him. This seems like a very harmless trip.
It will be inconsiderate of you to forbid him from simply being in the same area as his ex, especially since his ex is his friends futures wife's friend.
Unless there is something else he or she has done, I don't see this being a problem.
Good lord, girl…don't give any man that kind of power over you! He'll have you sitting on the sidelines of your life waiting for him to decide he wants you back? BS! Sure it's hard…but you're over as a couple. Period. Do you really think he's being a prim and proper boy? Sitting around like a monk in meditation? No. He's going out with other girls, keeping you as a “just in case”. Is that what you want to be? His backup plan? Put on those big girl panties, block his ass…and move along! It's only been 9 months. Don't devote any more of your life to this loser.
