Agreed OP. It sounds like you feel awful about yourself in this relationship. But you’re not doing anything wrong as described in this post. He’s disengaged when you want to engage, and vice versa. But he’s not nice about it. You’re describing common personality or gender differences and maybe just a lack of compatibility. If he’s being that disdainful about your differences, it’s not good for you.

Yeah, do a background search using one of the inexpensive services on the web, such as truthfinder or intelius. If your state has a public website of court cases, check there. Then, also do a reverse image search to see if his picture shows up anywhere else. Finally, look for him in sex offender registries for your own and neighboring states.
My guess is that he's got some ugly history he's covering up. I wouldn't say that just from his fighting skills, but the fact that neither he nor his family will discuss his past is very suspect.
Or, you can just tell him you are breaking up, then block him everywhere.
