Anything we can say is guesswork. I’ll add one alternative guess to one of his behaviours. The “amusement” might not be actual “amusement” (Tho, it’s possible if he’s a sociopath or just super damaged and at the end of his rope I guess) Has he ever delivered horrible news with a smile? Talked about trauma or tragedy with a smile?
I was so conditioned to minimise my own pain that I would (and sometimes still do) talk about horrible pain by seemingly smiling and joking. “So then XYZ happened and it was really awful haha”. It’s a defense mechanism, but also it’s a weird way to attempt to soften the blow for others. I didn’t know how to handle my own hurt and didn’t want to hurt anyone else. Not saying this is absolutely what’s happened, but it’s a possibility.
It started great and she was super sweet. She still does things for me and I painted a one-sided picture in my post, but things have grown worse and worse over time and I honestly feel gaslit.
