I think you haven't really told us quite enough about him. You said his reaction is that he will be livid. Does he get livid very often? That is certainly a red flag. If he's not pulling his financial weight and wants you to sign a lease, he's trying to trap you whether he knows that consciously or not. My advice would be skip any relationship counsellor stuff. You know what you want to do. Get somebody to come with you when you break up with him. In fact, when he goes away on this long fishing trip, why don't you get most of your belongings and your pet somewhere safe and secure? It's time for you to leave this relationship. That much is absolutely clear: how he handles it is up to him. He can go see a counsellor afterwards himself. Couples counselling is for couples that want to stay together.
