The problem is, paranoid schizophrenia, the other things your sister has…don’t go away. It’s a lifelong struggle, not something that will be “fixed” once she is medicated. So I know you’re holding onto idea that you’ll get her on medication and then she can live! an independent life but that is really not the case.
People relapse. People stop taking your meds. Dosages need to be readjusted. Schizophrenia is one of the hardest conditions to treat and on-line with. If you are assuming responsibility for her, you are always going to have to be on call because she could turn. Which means your fiancé is not your priority. Which means you’re going to have to re-evaluate the decision to have children because your wife’s going to want a committed partner and your sister why not be safe around them. Which means your sister likely going to be unable to hold down a job or pay rent and that means you might be stuck having her live with you forever, which means your finances are going to be divided even more and you don’t have the privacy of a family life your fiancée reasonably wants.
It’s probably going to have to boil down to one or the other. See if it if you could try relationship counseling, but your fiancé is not wrong here.
And honestly, I would differ from some of these opinions and say that you should tell your ex what happened. It shouldn’t be in an attempt to try to win her back but instead to provide her closure. If it were me, I would feel a lot better to know that the break up was you making a lot of bad choices, rather than me being so disposable that you would just toss me away after 5 years to marry someone else.
This, as a woman, I would 100% want to know the truth and have some closure, there would be no relationship after the fact though.
