If you scroll through posts on this subreddit, the comment section has a tendency to say “break up”, “leave”, “get out asap” for pretty much everything, and it sort of makes you want to ignore that advice. You think you've got a good relationship going here and it's with someone you love, so it's worth salvaging, right?
This is one of those cases where the comments are completely right. You need to leave this guy. Let's assume you never want to leave him and stay with him. He will continue to physically hurt you over every tiny thing (He hit you over a video game for fucks sake). If you eventually decide to have children with him, he will hit them over every little thing too. And what if one of you makes a slightly bigger mistake? Will he hit harder, potentially sending you to the hospital? Even the verbal criticism during a video game (a VIDEO GAME!!) was uncalled for. The violence is so far across the line of what is acceptable that there is really no chance for this relationship to go well. Like ever.
You really do need to figure out a way to get out. It will not be easy, but if you do, you will be able to escape the cycle of abuse in your family and you will be so much happier. Perhaps the comfort that he provides makes you want to stay more than the person he is. Perhaps you see him as a hero for saving you from your abusive family. He is not your hero, he is just changing the source of abuse. He really is just not a good guy. And his poor younger brother will see this and learn to think that this is ok… Rather sickening.
