So, I totally understand your concerns and feelings and would communicate them with your bf. However, it sounds like you two grew up and also grew together in these last years. If you trust him that he's truthful towards you, it wouldn't be a hill to die on for me.
There is no excuse for him to be gushing over his ex-girlfriend like this. They definitely have something going on, and I do not think this is fair to you. I would break up with this guy. He’s not over her, and she’s not over him.
The next time he starts talking about how “fun” and “beautiful” she is, I would say, “That’s great because I’m done, so you two can now get back together.”
I wouldn’t say another word after that. I’d just get up and would leave.
You deserve better than this. This guy is a terrible partner, and he is not ready to be in another relationship. There are so many other men out there who will treat you better.
Not gaslighting. Bad, yes. But not gaslighting. Making ultimatums and stonewalling are still awful things to do to a partner, but they simply are not gaslighting.
