1. It’s a misconception that psychotic symptoms always require hospitalisation and that they increase the risk of violence. Seeing connections that aren’t there isn’t an especially “severe” symptom. In most of the U.K. you could get a psych assessment in 24-48 hours without presenting at A&E. I appreciate that people who aren’t used to working with people in psychosis often find it very scary, but symptoms like this are commonly managed in the community if there’s a supportive home environment. Hospitalisation is often predicative of worse longer term outcome.
