I used to be insanely introverted when I was a teenager, my friends would drag me to parties and I’d just listen to other peoples conversations and not say a thing. People literally thought I was mute and at the time I may as well have been.
But over time I just got used to it and learnt to interact, but more importantly I learnt to interest and entertain people.
Not that you have to be done court jester, but being able to talk about even the most mundane topics but making them interesting or entertaining is an interpersonal skill that’ll serve you until the day you die.
My recommendation, find a podcast to start listening to that has really good ‘banter’ so you can build your interpersonal skills a bit. I listened to film and video games podcasts and learnt how to maintain comfortable and entertaining conversations. Again I transferred from mute to well liked extrovert in large part to listening to podcasts.
But on top of that find better friends, they sound lousy and like they only go to you if you are useful. Not nice to be treated like a tool in someone’s toolbox.
