1. I agree. It’s understandable he feels that way , and he seems to recognize it’s not great in some degree. However, he hasn’t came out of the other side ready for a healthy relationship. He still associates his toxic situation with passion and excitement. How long had he been separated from his ex before you started dating?

   If I were you friend and not some stranger in the internet, I would say to think very hard about this relationship. You’re 34, is it truly worth attempting to guide him to undo that thought process? Are you, to some degree, settling for someone who sees you as “boring” due to their past because you’re afraid to get back into dating? Or is he truly a wonderful partner in every way and worth the risk; i.e possibly never correctly doing the work to undo the harm his previous relationship did?

2. This was so painful to read. It is the thing I’m most afraid of in this world, to lose my husband. I’m so sorry.

   I have not lost a partner/spouse, but I have lost my mother and 3 brothers all unexpectedly, so from that perspective I can say that yes, it is the worst feeling you will ever feel & yes, you will wish you were dead.
