2. It's nonsense. My BIL was around OP's husband's age when my sister got pregnant by surprise with their youngest. He is now 52 with an about-to-be 5-year-old. They also have four other children, two of whom are under the age of 10. Despite his age, and despite being partially disabled and in chronic pain due to a car accident a few years ago, he is an enthusiastic and highly involved father who, if anything, has gotten a “second wind” from these little ones.

   He takes charge of bathtimes, does his daughters' hair in the mornings before school, was the one who woke with them at 5 AM so my sister could sleep in an extra hour when they were toddlers (he would joke, “I'm old and can't sleep much anyway!”). He revels in it.

   That this man has “zero bond” with his baby is by choice. He is CHOOSING to see himself as “too old to parent a small child”. Plenty of older men have kids, whether deliberately or by surprise, and do so with love and enthusiasm. Plenty of older women as well. Whether he is depressed or just uninterested doesn't even matter at this point because he won't get help, and he IS far too old to just abdicate his responsibilities this way and use “I'm old” as an excuse.

   My heart breaks for OP. He is full of nonsense.
