You tried therapy, but clearly didn't stick to it. And, I say this gently, you do need therapy to work through this. I've been there, therapy and a support group (if you can find one for whatever the cause of your self-esteem issues are) is absolutely the way to go.
I'm assuming you quit therapy because it just wasn't working for you. Sadly, this is what happens with a lot of people who are new to therapy. You give it a shot but it feels like the therapist just isn't helping, or you don't really feel like they're a good fit, and so you stop and give up on it.
I've also been there. The secret is to treat finding a therapist like dating. If you're not compatible, cut ties and keep looking until you find a better fit. Finding the right therapist is no easier than finding the right romantic partner.
