  1. If he has to “learn” not to insult you to your face he’s either too stupid or too mean to be in a relationship. Is it very hot for you not to insult him despite being 4 years younger? I’m assuming it’s not

  2. It's not your fault you didn't cancel at first and don't feel bad. Your worries about everyone losing a lot of money and people not being afford to rebook flights if you decide to reschedule were incredibly accurate. And your fiancé wasn't being a clear communicator at all. It would be different if he told you outright, I need the wedding to be cancelled and stuck to that. Instead he flip-flopped, putting you in a difficult position and giving you lots of false hope.

I hope you both take the time to work on yourselves as individuals and then confront the issues in your relationship – especially communication – that lead to this head on. There's no point cancelling the wedding if you both don't try to work on yourselves and together create a healthier dynamic.

  3. But it’s clear that you KNOW it’s wrong. You feel it’s wrong and it doesn’t matter whether your partner label it as gaslighting or whatever.

Your partner is not a good person. You know that right? There are good ways and bad ways to handle situations where someone did something wrong. You know that too, because I’m guessing you don’t swear and yell at your kids for doing something wrong?

Realistically, is there anything that anyone can say to you to make you understand that you deserve more than this? That your children deserve a better normal than this? That 16 years of abuse have made you think that your feelings don’t matter? But they do. More than ever. Your partner can try to convince you all sorts of lies, like you’re gaslighting them if you speak up, but your feelings know the truth. When you feel very confused, feel your feelings. If you your feelings tell you that you’re unhappy, you are. And those feelings are valid.
