You've probably pegged him accurately as a man-child who isn't developing in such a way that he'll ever have a normal life. Valid. if the excuse is “this is the last chance for me to party before the child comes”, it's a very bad excuse. A person who is ready to have a child should view these types of parties as a “no thanks” or a “sure, I can go out, but I need to return by [reasonable hour here with little alcohol]”.
There's a lot of things I used to do when I was in my early 20's, like staying out late, drinking, getting drunk, etc., that no longer appeals to me.
