1. Yeah I’m honestly pretty surprised by the response by OP and the commenters.

   I’m not an advocate of spanking, but I’ve always considered “spanking” to be bending a child over your knee and repeatedly hitting them on the rear with your hand or other object. I’ve never really equated a swat to correct aggressive behavior with spanking, and I think it’s pretty absurd on its face to suggest that those two things are the same or have the same psychological effects.

   What I’m wondering is how the various studies people here are referring to define spanking. The couple I’ve clicked on haven’t offered a definition. Perhaps I’m wrong and even corrective swats have lasting effects, but I’ve always assumed those studies were about the more aggressive scenario I described.
