Are you asking if you should deny your feelings, push them down, ignore them? No. Not ever. You can simultaneously have feelings about something, and recognize that it might also be forgivable. The most important thing is that you allow your feelings to be present and process/grieve them.
Honestly if you just treat her well then it will get factored into the decision. Of course, if you go overboard then she may be turned off to the city.
Not saying this is the case of your female friend, but A LOT of younger single women look to seduce older men in their 30's and 40's (even beyond) because they're more financially secure and already established. Rather than going out and finding someone their age, they find someone already married and attempt to become a replacement for the current wife. That's probably (one of multiple reasons) why your wife is uncomfortable. She isn't “jealous of the friendship;” she's a married woman who is familiar with the tendencies of single, younger women – especially attractive ones.
Just my two cents and the experience I've had as a therapist. I see this dynamic often. Not saying this is necessarily always true, but it happens frequently. Sure, it takes two to tango… but ask yourself this. If this 26F was covered in acne and morbidly obese, would you STILL maintain that friendship and look forward to seeing her? Probably not.

To be fair, I have people that age and older in my college class (I myself turned 26 today and am in 6th semester rn ? I don’t even realize people are older or younger than me unless I ask – we’re all kind of at the same point in life), when I started we had some people aged 18/19 and some people in their low 30s in the same course and I couldn’t tell the difference unless they went full “teenage word of the year”-lingo.
If they both went the traditional route though and one is years deep into their career while the other started college not too long ago, that could be a vastly different experience.

I don't see why she should be dictating how you take this or don't take this. You haven't merged finances or anything. Also you're still pretty young, and your primary role right now is student.
I will also observe that if this relationship ends up in marriage, you need to set a precedent that you will not let her dictate everything to you. Yes a wife or partner should have some say in many things, but she's out of line at this stage and you need to push back on this sort of thing.
