The problem is that weight gain can affect your partner. We’d all like to live! in a perfect world where you fall in love and physical appearance stops meaning anything. But that’s false for just about everyone, just to differing degrees.
You don’t just get to tell op he can’t worry about her weight, and to drop it. It’s affecting him and his attraction to her. He can’t just drop it.
Just like op can’t tell her she needs to drop the weight. But he can generally try to let her know how he’s feeling and guide in one direction, and it sounds like he’s tried everything and she doesn’t care to lose the weight.
Which is where leaving her is probably the only positive solution for both of them. Unless she wants to be trapped with a man who resents her for making unhealthy choices and is no longer attracted to her.
