Beneficiaries can be literally anyone. If OP's wife makes a lot of money and takes time off work (not saying she did, just as an example), it's beneficial to have herself as the beneficiary, so she can take that time off without worrying about losing a paycheck.
It would also be beneficial for OP to have one for himself with himself as beneficiary for his own time off work, but that is a separate policy he'd need to obtain on his own if his wife isn't willing to help with that.

Maybe you think he's not like that presently. But, that's only because he's in a good place where you date him. Once you initiate a breakup, you will see just how “good” he is. I suggest you breakup in public or somewhere where you are in control and safe. This man is not who the 'in love' version of you thinks he is. Put your safety first and get yourself out of there.
