I could be wrong as well, that may not have been the commenter's intention. But their are people who get overzealous to downright petty in their attempts to be supportive because again they get angry on another person's behalf.
I got a vibe of “he's an idiot who needs to be taught a lesson” rather than “he's being ignorant, don't let that affect how you feel about yourself” vibe since the only reassurance was the commenter's own experience. Also unclear on what “making amends” looks like or is supposed to mean. Clarification would be nice.
(Also I know you aren't that commenter, but there is a BIG difference between “until he apologizes” and “an extra couple weeks”. If he isn't apologizing for WEEKS for saying something so hurtful, even if just out of ignorance, then OP very much can do better for partners)
It’s embarrassing sure, you might feel bad about it now but you’ll likely laugh about it in the future. His reaction is over the top for sure. Don’t beat yourself up too much. I’ve done far more embarrassing things than that. Most people have.
