You should tell him, what happens if he asks you in the future even in casual conversation why you and your ex broke up. At that point you either lie to him which makes you a bad partner or tell him the truth and if he’s okay with it, great. But if he’s not, that’s a lot of extra pain that could have been avoided if you had just been up front.
He knows about your prior relationship, I would not be surprised if it comes up in conversation sometime in the future
