You are not obligated to have sex with your partner. You are entitled to say no without justification either, just as your wife is. I’m sure she meant well and is upset and likely embarrassed about how her surprise for you turned out. It is unfortunate – rejection is really tough for some people, but You are still not in the wrong. You can say no, you can change your mind, regardless of the occasion, regardless of the other persons feelings, if you have already started etc. You are NOT in a position where you should have to apologise for not wanting sex and standing firm on it.

No… why would you say something like that to the woman who carried and raised three of your children? Even if you had an extremely toxic relationship before, what an awful thing to say. You can simply say you don't see her as a romantic partner anymore but still want to maintain a civil relationship for the sake of your children.
It's cruel to stay with her when she could find someone who really loves her. But you're going to have to face the consequences of leaving her after she helped you out and with dating a much younger woman. Don't be surprised if your kids and any mutual friends take her side on this one.
