I work with kids and there are some very lovely, mature 16-year-olds out there. They are still 16. “Mature for their age” is mature FOR A CHILD. Any adult who goes after an underage child is a predator, period.

I disagree. My experience is that — unless you were extremely close friends — people from the past only reconnect when they were / are interested in you. Exception are people with a different sexual orientation, obv.
Also, asking 'what made you reconnect?' is pretty normal after a 2y hiatus. He didn't assume anything by that question.
