1. I would argue that it does matter what the “specific ask” is. For example, if a guy had an anxiety issue and wanted a paternity test then that's demonstrating lack of trust. It's an insult. Likewise, OP's SO may view this issue as a lack of trust.

   Althought I think this is more simply a mismatch in the overall relationship expectations. OP seems to want a really serious relationship and her SO doesn't seem ready for it.
