  1. it really depends on what amount of money we are talking about.

I know several people who just got mom + dad's money their whole lives, then even more when they passed away (BDE) in inheritance.

personally I think not having a job/livelihood/productive pursuit is not good for a person's character. but if the money is there then ultimately the guy can do what he wants and what we think, or his girlfriend thinks, is immaterial in a “realistic” sense with regard to the singing.

look at millionaires who hold concerts for their own mediocre performance (e.g. art, music, singing, whatever). same kind of deal.

that being said if it's not that very specific case I'm 100% on board with your perspective.

  2. Plus she's a cheater, to worsen things up. It's not a minor fault… added to the rest , she's quite a piece.

  3. I guess I worded myself wrong, it isn't my place to dictate her bridal shower, what I mean is that since I'm paying for everything do not want to pay for a bridal shower. If her friends want to hole one then they can do it. I still don't like it but whatever. We have a shared account for all couple expenses like bills / mortgage / holidays blah blah blah, but we keep our own bank accounts for discretionary spending. She flat out does not have the capacity to afford the wedding she wants, let alone the expenses for bridal shower etc. Hence, I am paying for the wedding. Yes you could say we are paying for the wedding as a couple, but to be blunt it is coming out of my personal spending – which I am okay with. I am not okay with doing it for 'multiple mini events' leading up to the wedding. Her parents are not in a position to contribute.

I'm not sure if the culture is different, but the majority of bridal showers I have seen lately on social media with mutual friends etc. have been pretty lavish affairs.

With the feedback I have got have re-evaluated and will be more polite with the wording about gifts. I have spoken to my fiancee since and will keep it off the invitation, and have it on the website. we have decided to write something along the lines of their presence is the only gift we ask more, please refrain from other gifts and if they feel they really want to, to spoil themselves on us/donate to a charity. we haven't worked it out yet. To be clear she doesn't want gifts either, it's the wording she has a problem with.
