The sex convo I would chalk up to an at your own risk thing. It doesn’t always go bad, but for me the risk isn’t worth it. Even if you just leave it at “we hooked up” with no further detail, your partner is now imagining you with someone else, and there’s a bit of pain in that. Even though people know they aren’t the first, the reminder can still be unpleasant.

I never find is reasonable for ANYONE to tell someone one else what to do with their sex life. Just because I may not understand why some one wants to be poly, does not mean I feel I have the entitlement to demand they comply with my wishes “or else”.
Normally I would agree, however I believe people are free to do what they want up until the point it hurts someone else. In this case, their behavior was very clearly taking a large emotional and mental toll on their own child and I think that's what made the ask appropriate here. If they weren't so selfish they could have taken more than a month long break and done family therapy to help him. But they didn't.
Yeah, I know. It just sucks because I've told him that I'm not disappointed in him and it's okay to think about work. I can always wait for him and if he's stressed we should talk about it to cope with it together, because evidently that's just what couples do.
