It usually takes a couple of years (2-3) for an abuser to show their true colors. It's strategic- it takes multiple years to build a sufficient bank of good memories and the illusion of safety. It's the good memories and security (not to mention eroding support networks outside the relationship, and financial compromise) to pin the victim in place. If he hadn't cheated, that would have been your bodies face instead. And given how shallow and foolish your family is, they would have blamed you for getting involved with an abuser.

Wow I feel this one. I’m a single dad with a very difficult 1st grader. It’s often a fight to get her dressed in the morning, and we had an escalation last month where there was yelling and crying and I basically carried her to the car.
I really hated myself all day, and we actually both said sorry to each other after school. As others have said, you gotta talk to hub and make sure he understands it’s not ok to go ballistic on the kids. Having said all that, we are all human and I don’t necessarily hear that hes a danger to the kids.
