2. I would be concerned with what “tic/behaviour” has replaced the obsessive 'fixing'.

   If he is repressing behaviours he has so clearly exhibited for a year with no diminished intensity there will be something to replace that behaviour or your on course for an explosive event where he can no longer cope.

   Or… He's developed this behaviour as method of control..

   Obviously we don't have enough info here and no one can accurately diagnose or dismiss this behaviour but either way I would, unfortunately, be being very very wary.
