Do you think part of the reason Jake hates R so much is, in fact, because somewhere, somehow, he did in fact learn that R was only conceived to “save” him? And subsequently either did or didn’t? He could resent him for helping to save him (even though R, himself, didn’t actually do anything) because he resents that he owes him his life. Or maybe he heard his parents arguing together and/or with a doctor about having a baby, specifically, in an attempt to save Jake. Maybe your parents didn’t agree? Maybe your mom hated that she ‘had to’ get pregnant? And he, somehow, heard about all of that? Which made his resent R for what he “was doing” to his parents before he was even born … and if, under those circumstances, R did save Jake?
