They have both experienced a tragic loss. On top of that, she is experiencing everything physically, emotionally, hormonally, that comes from having a baby, while her baby died. This is no excuse to cheat, but she is definitely not in the right headspace. This is incredibly tragic for both but she experienced an added layer of trauma having carried the baby for however long the pregnancy lasted. Only your friend can decide if he can get past the cheating or not, but they both should consider individual therapy and couples therapy. Maybe after he's had some time working through the grief, it will be clearer to him if he wants (or if he can) remain in this relationship with her or not.

This happens to me when I get really stressed too. It’s usually about tests/school but also if I have a big conflict with someone I care about. Or if I smell raw fish. I can usually prevent full on getting sick but I will def cough and gag involuntarily.
