I'd argue that splitting up a young family of four would be more of a burden. Now four kids have to be ferried back and forth between mom and dad. Finances get split; gotta pay for two mortgages, family lawyers, court fees etc. Not to mention the negative impact that being raised by a single parent has on a child's life (there's endless studies supporting this).
So I take issue with both emcmm's use of the phrase “of course” and “crystal clear”, and your use of “completely valid”. Divorce is almost never black-and-white, and this is one is murkier than most.
