Firstly, apologies for the gradual update, it' s been a chaotic few days. Many thanks to everyone who commented and reached out and allowed me to to realize that the relationship I was in was not for me.
I ended it which went worse than expected. She' d already told a few people what I told her in confidence, and she' s likely to tell more of our shared friends (some of whom know already, but don' t care). I don' t think she got the responses she had been expecting though.
I figured out that this is about more than the shoes – she wants to maintain control of everything, right down to what clothes I wear, could spend my money and how I spend my time. These red flags were obvious before but I overlooked them.
The good news is that I had been planning on moving to the same country, just a different town. I also work completely remotely so the disruption to my a lot more not nearly as severe as it would be if I' d settled in a brand new place with a new job.
Right now I' m staying at a good Airbnb for a few days just before I travel to my brand new home and embark on my new life, wearing what ever I want.
